Due to the increased danger of brutal targeting of Americans, the American State Department warned the citizens of the travel area of Matamoros, located in Tamaulipas, one of six Mexican states.
The American State Department writes of Tamaulipas that don’t travel due to crime and kidnapping. They added, “Organized crime activity – including armed robbery, murder, gun battles, forced disappearances, carjacking, kidnapping, sexual assault, extortion, and kidnapping is common over the northern border and in Ciudad Victoria.”
Four U.S. Citizens were abducted in Matamoros at the start of this year. On March seven, Mexican forces saved the survivors from a shelter where they were being detained. Due to gunshot wounds suffered before their kidnapping, two of the individuals died.
