Kamala Harris, Vice President, says that President Joe Biden is still very much alive, and he plans to seek reelection. Harris talks with Bill Whitaker about different issues, such as the impending presidential election, the border situation, and the ongoing Israel-Gaza War.
Speaking with certain Democratic contributors, we learned that there would be an open contest to determine who will run for president in the event that President Biden is unable to run. You are in a position where taking the initiative would be natural for you. Donors, however, are telling us that they would not fall into line on their own. How come? asks Whitaker.
Kamala Harris retorted that Joe Biden is very much alive and considering running for re-election, so I’m not going to get involved in that scenario.
But, Whitaker interrupted, you do know. That is, in my opinion, a valid reason to be concerned.
I get a lot of diverse information from a wide range of sources. But let me be clear: I’m focusing on the current task at hand. Really, I am. Bill, our democracy is in jeopardy. Furthermore, Kamala Harris stated, I honestly don’t have time for idle games when we have a president up for reelection.
Following a long silence, Kamala Harris said, “That’s it.”
Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota raised the subject when he declared that he would be running against Biden in the Democratic primary in an effort to pressure the party to “hand over the torch” to the next generation. Phillips’ campaign was not mentioned in the conversation.
Even though Biden is the incumbent, Democratic supporters have often expressed concern about his age and endurance. If the president is elected to a second term in 2024, he will be eighty-two years old.
Kamala Harris’s Approval Rating
Kamala Harris’s approval rating is still poor in the interim. Just 41% of adults told CBS that they agreed with Whitaker’s work as vice president, as the host of the broadcast pointed out. Harris, though, didn’t seem to care about polling.
I believe the decision will be obvious when voters in America get a chance to carefully consider their options during election season, Bill. We will prevail. I’ll just tell you that we will prevail. Harris said, And I’m not stating that it’s going to be effortless, but we will win.
I receive a wide variety of information from a wide range of sources. But let me be clear: I’m focusing on the current task at hand. Actually, Harris said, I really am.
Bill, our democracy is in jeopardy. And to be honest, I don’t think I have time for idle games when our president is up for reelection, Harris said. “That’s it.”
Whitaker also mentioned how former President Donald Trump fared in polls throughout the campaign. Biden and Trump appear to be in a close fight based on recent polling.
I believe the decision will be obvious come election time when the American people are able to closely examine their options. We’re going to win, Bill Harris declared.
I only have to assure you that we will succeed. Nor do I assert that it will be easy. But we’ll win, she went on.
Biden announced his candidacy for reelection in an April video address, pleading with voters to give him the opportunity to complete the task.
I believe that worrying about one’s age—mine included—is a valid issue. In an interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart in October 2022, Biden stated, “I think that’s totally legitimate.” I believe that watching me is the best method for you to judge me. Have I slowed down? Am I moving as quickly as before?
